Best Bike Rental Software for E-Bike and Mountain Bike Shops (2026)

How the top bike rental software options handle sizes, batteries, waivers, and deposits for e-bike and mountain bike shops, with real pricing at your volume.

Best Bike Rental Software for E-Bike and Mountain Bike Shops (2026)

The best bike rental software for an e-bike or mountain bike shop handles sizes, batteries, waivers, and damage deposits before the rider reaches your counter. Most tools were built for guided tours or for generic equipment, and e-bike shops feel the gap fast.

Picture a Saturday in season. Ten riders want a medium e-MTB at 9 a.m., two batteries are still charging, and a $6,000 bike is about to leave with a stranger who hasn't signed anything. A calendar plugin can't help you there. Rental software built for fleets can.

This guide compares the main bike rental software options for shops that rent e-bikes and mountain bikes by the hour, half-day, or day. For each one, we cover what it costs, how it handles sizes, waivers, deposits, and maintenance, and which kind of shop it fits.

Full disclosure: we make Renta. We built it after running our own rental fleet in southern Utah (AlpMX Adventures rents e-bikes, Sur-Ron e-dirt bikes, and paddleboards), so we know where generic tools break. Every competitor's pricing links to its own page so you can check our work.

Quick picks

There is no single best tool for every bike shop. The right pick depends on what else you do besides rentals.

What e-bike and mountain bike shops need from rental software

A trail-ready e-MTB typically costs $3,500 to $6,000, and high-end models cost more (Upway). Each one comes in several frame sizes and needs a charged battery before it goes out. That changes what your software has to do. We judged every tool on these eight things:

  • Per-bike tracking. Each bike, and each size, should be its own unit. "Three mediums available" has to mean three real bikes, not a number on a calendar.
  • Maintenance and out-of-service status. A bike with a dead battery or a bent derailleur should drop out of availability the moment you flag it. Service history matters when you run 30 or more bikes.
  • Flexible pricing. Hourly, half-day, full-day, and multi-day rates, plus weekend and peak-season pricing, without building every combination by hand.
  • Digital waivers before arrival. Every rider signs on their phone before they reach the counter, including the kids in a family booking.
  • Deposits and damage handling. A card hold or deposit at booking, a clear way to charge for damage, and condition records from pickup and return.
  • Add-ons. Helmets, racks, trailers, child seats, and guided rides sold as line items, not as separate bookings.
  • Walk-ins and online bookings in one place. If walk-ins live on paper and online bookings live in software, you will double-book on your busiest day.
  • Fees that fit your volume. A percentage looks cheap at $3,000 a month and expensive at $30,000. Do the math at your real numbers.

The best bike rental software, reviewed

1. Renta

Best for: e-bike and MTB shops that want booking, waivers, deposits, and fleet maintenance in one system, especially if they rent more than bikes.

Renta was built for fleets rented by the hour or day: bikes, boats, kayaks, paddleboards, ATVs and UTVs. Every bike is tracked as its own fleet item, with availability and maintenance status. Riders sign digital waivers tied to their booking, and Renta collects deposits, releases them automatically, and runs a damage flow when something comes back broken.

What stands out

  • Riders pick their frame size when they book, so the medium you promised is the medium they get.
  • Pickup and return checklists record condition checks and which bike went to which rider.
  • Pricing rules cover duration, blackout dates, and seasonal rates.
  • Helmets, trailers and guides sell as add-ons. Coupons work across channels.
  • Walk-ins and online bookings share one booking ledger.
  • Storefront and website builder with a custom domain, plus booking widgets for WordPress and Webflow.
  • Unlimited locations, staff seats, and fleet items on every plan.

Watch out for

  • Payments run online through Stripe. There is no card reader, so walk-ins pay through checkout on a phone or tablet.
  • It's newer than most tools here, so there are fewer third-party reviews to read.
  • SMS reminders and automated review requests aren't listed features.

Pricing: two plans with the same features. On the commission plan, renters pay a 2.5% Renta fee at checkout, and you keep the full booking total. The flat plan is $300/month ($3,000/year) with no Renta fee. Stripe processing (about 2.9% + 30¢) applies to both. Renta says flat pricing wins once you pass about $12,000 a month in bookings. 2. Bike Reservations Manager

Best for: bike shops that do repairs, fittings, and ex-rental sales alongside rentals.

Bike Reservations Manager (BRM, at bikerentalmanager.com) is the most bike-specific tool on this list. Every plan includes online and in-store bookings with real-time bike availability, digital waivers, online and in-store payments, workshop bookings with full service history, and tours and events.

What stands out

  • Built for bike shops, including appointments, bike fitting, and selling ex-rental bikes.
  • Repairs and service history live in the same system as rentals.
  • All features are included on every plan.

Watch out for

  • Plans cap your inventory (50, 100 or 250 bikes) and set a yearly revenue ceiling. Above it, you pay a percentage, from 2.5% on Bronze down to 1.25% on Platinum.
  • Multi-location is a $330/year add-on.
  • Deposits aren't mentioned on the pricing page.

Pricing: $859/year (Bronze, up to 50 bikes and $38,000 in yearly revenue), $1,299/year (Silver), $2,199/year (Gold), and $3,769/year (Platinum, 250+ bikes and $305,000), billed annually.

3. Booqable

Best for: general equipment rental shops that want a good-looking online store and no booking commission.

Booqable is general-purpose rental software. It takes no commission on bookings, includes unlimited items and orders on every plan, and lists security deposits among its features.

What stands out

  • No cut of your bookings on any plan.
  • Unlimited items and orders.
  • 14-day free trial, no credit card required.

Watch out for

  • Key features are gated by plan. E-signatures start on Grow, and multi-location needs Scale plus $29 per extra location each month.
  • POS and barcode scanning are $9 per user each month. The website builder is $19 a month extra.
  • It isn't built around bikes, so check how sizes and maintenance work for your fleet.

Pricing: Start $29/month, Grow $69/month, and Scale $149/month, billed yearly ($35, $87, and $187 billed monthly).

4. TWICE Commerce (formerly Rentle)

Best for: multi-store retailers running rentals, subscriptions and resale together.

TWICE Commerce is what Rentle became; rentle.io now redirects to it. It calls itself a circular commerce platform for rental and resale operators and lists Decathlon UK among its customers. Every feature is included for every merchant.

What stands out

  • Online store, in-store kiosk and third-party marketplaces from one inventory.
  • Security deposits, service orders and buffer or prep times between rentals.
  • Cross-location fulfillment and stock transfers.

Watch out for

  • You pay per location plus a commission on every payment.
  • Prices are set in euros, so the dollar figures move with the exchange rate. Support on the Standard plan is email only.
  • Waivers aren't listed by name; it lists consents, policies, and document templates instead.

Pricing: Standard has no platform fee. Each location costs about $233 a month (the pricing page shows the first one at 50% off, about $116), plus 1.5% of every processed payment. Enterprise starts at about $5,850/month. TWICE sets prices in euros and shows dollars as an approximate conversion.

5. Checkfront

Best for: shops that want one simple plan with waivers and automated messages built in.

Checkfront serves rentals, tours, and activities on a single plan. It supports daily, multi-day, timeslot, and flexible bookings, with resource management to prevent double-booking.

What stands out

  • Waivers are built in at no extra cost.
  • Automated email and SMS, including reminders and review requests.
  • No fee on offline bookings, API bookings, or OTA bookings beyond the OTA's own commission.

Watch out for

  • The 3% online booking fee grows with your volume. You can absorb it or pass it to riders.
  • The pricing page doesn't cover deposits, POS, or multi-location. Ask on a demo.

Pricing: $99/month plus 3% per online booking. No setup fee.

6. Peek Pro

Best for: operators whose main product is guided bike tours.

Peek Pro's bike rental page lists digital waivers and ID upload before arrival, security deposits and card holds, damage photos with a disputes center, and dynamic pricing for weekends and peak season. Custom booking questions ask for height, weight, or skill level to match riders to bikes.

What stands out

  • Strong tour tools, plus add-ons and bundles for guided rides and multi-day rentals.
  • Mobile apps for iOS and Android that work offline.
  • Bikes out for maintenance are marked unavailable.

Watch out for

  • Peek doesn't publish a price list. Ask for a quote, and ask who pays the booking fee.
  • Its bike page doesn't mention e-bikes.
  • It's built around tours and activities first.

Pricing: quote only.

7. FareHarbor

Best for: tour-first operators who want to avoid a monthly software bill.

FareHarbor is built for tours and activities and has a large reseller network. According to FareHarbor, the customer pays its booking fee when they book online.

What stands out

  • The customer pays FareHarbor's booking fee, not you.
  • A big distribution network if you sell through resellers.

Watch out for

  • FareHarbor doesn't publish the fee amount, and your riders see it added at checkout.
  • Its public pages focus on tours. Ask how it handles per-bike availability, deposits and damage claims.

Pricing: no public price list. Customers pay a booking fee.

How to choose the right bike rental software

Start with what your shop does besides rentals, then do the fee math at your own volume.

  • Guided rides are most of your revenue: look at Peek Pro or FareHarbor. If rentals matter as much as tours, Renta sells guides as add-ons on a rental booking.
  • You also repair, fit and sell bikes: Bike Reservations Manager keeps the workshop and rentals in one system.
  • You rent e-bikes plus other gear, like kayaks, paddleboards or ATVs: Renta handles mixed fleets, lets riders pick a frame size, and includes waivers, deposits and maintenance on both plans.
  • You run several stores with resale or subscriptions: TWICE Commerce is built for that scale.
  • You want the lowest fixed bill and no commission: Booqable, if the features you need are on your plan.
  • You want SMS and review requests built in: Checkfront.

Renta flat plan

$300

No Renta fee for riders; Renta says flat beats commission past about $12,000/month

Six questions to ask on any demo

  • Can I track each bike, and each frame size, as its own unit?
  • How do I take a bike out of service, and does that block it from being booked?
  • Who pays the booking fee, and how is it shown at checkout?
  • How are deposits held and released, and how do I charge for damage?
  • Can every rider in a group sign a waiver before arriving?
  • What will I pay at my real monthly volume, in peak season and off-season?

Frequently asked questions

What is bike rental software?

Bike rental software (or bicycle rental software) takes bookings online and at the counter, tracks which bikes are available, and collects payments. Good tools also handle waivers, deposits, add-ons, and maintenance, so one system runs the whole rental from booking to return.

How much does bike rental software cost?

Entry prices on this list run from $29 a month (Booqable Start, billed yearly) to $300 a month (Renta's flat plan). Many also take a percentage of each booking or payment (1.5% to 3% on this list), or charge riders a fee at checkout. Payment processing is extra on every tool.

Do I need separate bike tour booking software?

Usually not. Most tools here take both rentals and guided rides. Tour-first platforms like Peek Pro and FareHarbor lean toward tours. Renta, Checkfront, and Bike Reservations Manager handle tours alongside rentals.

Can bike rental software manage e-bike batteries?

Few tools track battery charge directly. What works in practice is a fast way to mark a bike out of service, buffer time between rentals for charging, and maintenance records. Ask how each tool handles a bike that comes back with a flat battery.

Is "free" bike rental software really free?

Not quite. Tools with no monthly fee usually charge a booking fee, paid either by you or by your riders at checkout. That can be a good deal for a small shop. Just know who pays it and how it appears at checkout.

Can I take walk-in rentals in the same system?

Yes, with most tools. Renta puts walk-ins and online bookings in one booking ledger. Bike Reservations Manager lists in-store bookings and payments. Booqable sells POS as an add-on. Whatever you pick, avoid running walk-ins on paper next to an online calendar.

Try Renta with your own fleet

We built Renta after running into these problems ourselves at AlpMX Adventures, our rental shop in southern Utah. If you rent e-bikes or mountain bikes by the hour or day, it's built for you.

Import your fleet from a CSV, set your hourly and daily rates, turn on waivers and deposits, and start taking bookings. It's free to start and needs no credit card. If you'd rather not pay a monthly fee, the commission plan costs you nothing until you get booked.
